Welcome to the Nexus

Human hubris and shortsightedness lead to an unprecedented disaster.
One man knows the truth. Yet, no one believes him. The prodigal son of a genius quantum physicist, Alastair MacMillan believes that the world is more than science. He believes that ancient civilizations may have known more than modern people believe. In a post-apocalyptic world, he believes he will die with that knowledge, and that the world should just cease to be.
Then he meets Wicker.
Everything changes.

If you want this series to be a complete mystery, be wary of what you read. Some sections may be detailed enough for you to guess ahead of the plot, while others my only hint at the truth. Generally, most the information here is useful after you've read the story.
Everyone thought the end of the world would be loud; something heard the world over. Instead, it came with a nearly silent implosion, and a slow progression of events that changed everything. Millions died in the initial flood of creatures from the four other realms. They came from the Verdant Realm, the Echo Realm, the Dark Realm, and the Storm Realm. Some were incredibly dangerous. Others turned out to be peaceful. But all of them were stuck on Earth with no way home.
Humans thought they were solving the energy crisis. The need was great and fueled by unchecked capitalism and people who hoarded money as if they were dragons guarding gold. They were proud of their greatest invention, the Quantum Energy Bridge Stabilizer. They knew it would succeed where others had failed.
One man stood against them. Finley MacMillan had read the signs left by civilizations thousands of years old. He is also a member of the team building the QEBS and a brilliant quantum physicist in his own right, he knew things would go wrong. And as he sat watching, the world ended.
Twenty years later, his children cope with life without their father in different ways. The older, Archie, dives into science and vows to use the knowledge his father imparted on him to fix what’s been broken. The younger of the two, Alastair, knows his brother will fail. And instead of embracing his own brilliance, he becomes a member of a global enforcement division. He figures the knowledge will die with him, and that humans deserve their fate.
Then, he finds Wicker. He’s an anomaly, seemingly a being with powers from all four realms and then some. He feels strongly that he needs to be with him, and his heart slowly overrides his head. Wicker is an innocent in the world, raised in solitude in a backward city. His mission changes.
He will save the world.
And with it, he will save Wicker.
The Collision of Five Realms Leaves Earth Vulnerable
Explore the World
The world has forever changed, and there's so much more to it that even those who know, don't know it all. The four realms are all distinct and unique, and their impact throughout the world has varied depending on how local cultures interacted with, and sometimes accepted, them. Take a look at some of the highlights of the world as it is now.
