The Nexus Books
The books of the Nexus center around Alastair MacMillan, an enigmatic man who appears to be no more than a member of the Earth Defense Shield. He's more than he shows at first though; while not the genius of his father, he comes rather close. In constant strife with his scientist brother Archie, he navigates the world in an attempt to possibly save it. Wicker, a Realmer from the Dark Realm, is at his side to help.

The Nexus.
Few know of it, and fewer know what it really is. One of those people is Alastair MacMillan and he knows more than most. This information has left him with one choice.
When the Nexus opened, Earth became home to creatures that could only be described as impossible. The four realms that intersected with Earth were open, and the creatures within those realms came to Earth. They found they could not return.
These creatures invaded Earth, sending the population scrambling to protect themselves. Many lost their lives, but those who remained built walled cities and other tools to keep the creatures at bay.
Alastair has to make a choice. His father told him before he died that he had to choose what to do with the knowledge he had given him. He could either use it and maybe save the world, or he could ignore it and let the world die a gasping death.
He will choose to save the world.
He would close the Nexus.
